Itinerary Description

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

Distance: 30/50 km

This 6-day camping safari in Tanzania begins when we meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and transfer you to Planet Lodge in Arusha. Later in the day, our safari manager will arrive for a safari briefing before leaving you to enjoy the inviting lodge’s facilities for the rest of the day.

  • Dinner and breakfast are included.
  • Spend the night at Planet Lodge in Arusha City’s outskirts.

Day 2: Arusha – Lake Manyara National Park – Lake Eyasi

Meet your safari driver guide after breakfast and begin the safari; you will first stop in Arusha town for any last-minute shopping. Drive to Lake Manyara National Park after that. This lovely park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley, is endowed with a diverse range of overlapping habitats, swamps, and a lake. All of this provides habitat for a wide range of animal and bird species. The park has a large number of baboons found nowhere else in the world, as well as Lake Manyara tree climbing lions and massive flocks of flamingos. Expect to see giraffes, zebras, elephants, wildebeest, hippos, buffalo, and predators such as leopards, hyenas, and jackals, as well as a plethora of bird species.

After lunch, travel to Lake Eyasi for a cultural encounter. Driving up and across the Great East African Rift Valley takes about 1.5 hours to Lake Eyasi. When you arrive, you will meet the Datoga tribe, who will show you around their homes and allow you to interact with them and ask as many questions as you want. After visiting the blacksmith, you will take a sunset walk along the lakeshore before driving to the campsite for dinner and overnight.

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included.
  • Spend the night at Bushman Campsite near the Lake.

Day 3: Lake Eyasi – Serengeti National Park

On this day, we will take you for an early morning hunt with (Hadzabe) the bushmen, using bows and arrows and including survival skills training. Bushmen at Lake Eyasi are divided into three clans: Hadzabe, Tindiga, and Datoga, who hunt and gather eggs, wild fruits, and root tubers in the same way that Stone Age humans did. After the hunt, you will return to your campsite for a full breakfast before departing for the vast Serengeti plains via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Your Tanzania camping safari continues as you drive to Serengeti National Park, passing through the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and up to the Ngorongoro Crater. After checking in, you will drive up and around the rim of the Crater. You will make a brief stop at the Crater’s view point to take some photos. On the way, you will stop at a Masai village for a more cultural encounter; the Masai worrier will invite you and take you in and around their houses where you can meet kids and other family members, ask questions, and take pictures with them. Later, they will sing and dance to their favorite songs, which will include high jumping. You are welcome to join in the dancing if you so desire.

A Following that, drive into the heart of “wild Africa,” the Serengeti National Park, with its endless rolling plains. When traveling to the Central Serengeti area known as Seronera, stop for a picnic lunch at Naabi Hills Gate or at the Copjes (Rocky outcroppings). This is one of the park’s richest wildlife habitats, endowed with the Seronera River, a valuable water supply in this area that attracts a large number of wildlife from all over the Serengeti. Afternoon game drive in search of big cats and the Great Serengeti Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti (depending on traveling dates). Drive to your campsite in the late afternoon, before or during sunset, for dinner and overnight.

  • All meals are included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Spend the night at Seronera Public Campsite in the Central Serengeti.

Day 4: Full day Game drive in Serengeti

We take you on an early morning game drive with a packed breakfast and lunch box on this day of your 6-day Tanzania camping safari in the vast Serengeti plains. An early morning game drive allows you to see some cat families on the road as they try to avoid the morning mist. Other nocturnal predators returning from a long night of hunting, or a group of lionesses planning a morning ambush or eating along the road, may also be seen. Later, break for breakfast somewhere in the bush, and if the Great Wildebeest Migration is packed in the Serengeti, which you will already know, you will start early and go straight to where they are, spending a lot of time with them in anticipation of the migration.

Predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and others are possible to see. Buffalo, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, and numerous antelopes can also be seen roaming the Serengeti plains. Drive back to the campsite in the late afternoon or before sunset for dinner and overnight.

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included.
  • Spend the night at Seronera Public Campsite in Central Serengeti.

Day 5: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This is your final day in Serengeti; if you wish, you can do another early morning game drive and spend a lot of time in Serengeti doing game drives before leaving for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Arriving at Ngorongoro for a spectacular sunset at the crater rim, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

  • All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included.
  • Spend the night at Ngorongoro Simba Public Campsite on the Crater Rim.

Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

On the final day of your 6 Days Tanzania Camping Safari, you will have an early breakfast and then descend into the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a fantastic game drive (picnic lunch will be served in the Crater floor). Because few animals migrate in and out of the Crater’s 600-meter-high walls, you can expect to see herds of African elephants, zebras, buffalos, warthogs, hippos, and the rare black rhinos in their natural habitat.

Another big draw in this big caldera is the denser predator population, which includes lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires binoculars to spot.

Lake Magadi is a large but shallow salt lake on the crater floor that is frequently visited by flocks of flamingos and other aquatic birds. Some hippos and other animals can also be seen around the Lake.

Later in the afternoon, return to Arusha for drop-off at Kilimanjaro International Airport or overnight in Arusha. (Accommodation on this day is available upon request at an additional cost.)

  • Breakfast and lunch are included.
